Tradition and meaning are woven together in our Path of Purpose Shawl by Acoma Pueblo artist Michelle Lowden. "The shawl design draws its essence from the ceremonial kilt and manta of my Acoma Pueblo community," shares Michelle. "The strong geometric patterns adorning the fabric are not merely decorative; they are an homage to nature’s cycles. They reflect the graceful descent of rain, its droplets joining together, flowing down toward the waterways that carve through mountains, shaping the land over time."
Michelle has used shades of soft gray and rich charcoal to create striking geometric pathways, merging traditional symbols with a story about the journeys we take on the path of life. "Just as the rainwater follows its destined path, winding through valleys and finding its course, these patterns speak to the journey of life. They mirror the way our own paths twist and turn, sometimes with uncertainty, but always moving forward, always flowing. The flow of water, like life itself, embraces the journey—guided by purpose, sustained by resilience. This shawl, in its design, invites the wearer to reflect on their own journey, to feel connected to the land, to tradition, and to the deeper meaning that guides them along their way."
