Twelve years ago, Founder and CEO Louie Gong (Nooksack) started Eighth Generation by drawing on shoes. Louie didn’t have any art training when he started and his first shoes were not very good.
In his artwork, he merges traditional art with icons from popular culture and influences from his mixed heritage to make strong statements about identity.
He has not drawn on a pair of shoes or hosted a shoes workshop in a long time because he has been focused on scaling up Eighth Generation and creating economic opportunity for other Native artists. His last shoes workshop was documented in the short film
Eagle Vision: Taking Native Business to New Heights.
The download will include the entire book, which also includes six bonus pages of beautiful artwork by our Inspired Natives Project collaborators Sarah Agaton Howes (Anishinaabe), Michelle Lowden (Acoma Pueblo), and John Isaiah Pepion (Blackfeet).
