The Eighth Generation team has selected 13 semi-finalists after a tough and careful review of over 200 submissions from talented artists all across Indian Country! This blog announces the remaining 7. Check out our blog announcing the first 6 Semi-Finalists! After a period of community feedback, we will decide on the final 4.
We encourage you to show love and support for this year's semi-finalists (and the previously highlighted Honorable Mentions)by leaving a comment about your favorites! Jessica Powless, love the colors, design, the whole concept, reminds me of our Ancestors!
Geo Neptune’s basket design is outstanding! Woven basket designs often transfer well when printed onto fabrics too.

Geo’s basket is Fabanaki fabulous.
Ike Hopper – beautiful design
love your work halfmoon/pat
Love your work pat.
Jessica Rosemary Harjo
The basket by Geo Neptune is amazing! It feels like it’s representative of Two Spirit in a classic Wabanaki weaving design. The fact that Geo is Two Spirit and a master weaver just makes it even better!

My vote is for Geo Neptune! I love their artwork and the color schemes are amazing.
I really appreciate all of the creative people out there. Pat Bruderer, thank you for keeping ancient art of birch bark biting alive and so beautifully done!
Geo Neptune! Use of color is amazing—so vivid and so well balanced
I can’t decide between two (again!). The artwork is so amazing. Both of the submissions by Jessica Rosemary Harjo and David Naranjo are superb! Harjo’s design would make a great gift for a wedding or baby. It is so cheerful and sweet which really exudes love and new beginnings. Naranjo’s design contrasts many things. I see lightness and darkness, fine intricacy and bold pattern, possibly earth and sky. I’m so impressed with the artwork this year!
I vote for Geo Neptune!!!
Love the dragonfly and burnt edges Pat Bruderer.
Geo Neptune, Powless, Trujillo
Geo is a wonderful being & creates wonderfully mystical work representing the balanced persons. It would be Awesome to see Geos’ design’s on a blanket ♡
Geo Neptune! Refracted and reflected rainbows in four directions!
Ikerson Hopper’s work is first rate. full of subtlies as you look at it more and more
Kim Trujillo’s belts and layout just astonish and inspire. I see design ideas that I, as a regalia maker, hand’t even pictured; it’s wonderful
Finally, while all the works here are truly exceptional and Jessica Powless’ work is rich and layered, it is David Naranjo’s clean simplicity and referal back to Pueblo mantas tha is my personal favourite.
Wado, thank you for asking us!
Incredible pieces, all of them but I’m partial to David Naranjo’s blanket! Just stunning!!!
JESSICA POWLESS 💜💜
I am so impressed with Jessica Moore Harjo’s design, her work is so unique and the colors are beautiful.
Kim R Trujillo awesome designs and colors!
I also wanted to cast a #2 vote – it’s true, David Naranjo’s is also a great blanket design! There is a great sensibility about just that, blanket design, but is really…evolved, super fresh while keeping that traditional root, and something you couldn’t really weave, so it’s perfect for an 8th Gen blanket. Also love the use of neg/pos space like Kim said…which also creates such a pleasing palette!! Love the simple but standout colors, including the black and white. Would seriously consider buying. I put Ikerson Hopper’s first for these and the other reasons mentioned, but objectively I think both are stellar designs. Don’t know the background behind the art but maybe whomever has the more original design? Sorry for the long comments!! Thanks for asking us for our thoughts!
Okay so this vote is definitely from a customer who doesn’t personally know the entrants!!
Here: Ikerson Hopper’s design – NO DOUBT. Yes, full-on dope. Plus, to me it’s the most fully-realized blanket design, specifically for this, not for another piece of artwork, as beautiful as some of the others designed as something else are. And the black-and-white works for this design so perfectly, as it does for your other b&w designs. The design is so powerful and says something deep. I’m only slightly biased for wanting a Haudenosaunee design, but I say that not just for myself but b/c I would totally buy this, and it would make sense to keep broadening representation! (I think it would also appeal to other customers too, not just 6nations peeps!)
As for the other group, I vote for the Karuk deisgn! Similar reasons…it’s the best blanket design (as much as I dig the colors of a few of the others, is fresh as heck color-wise using both traditional and kinda updated design sensibility, and it looks like he designed it specifically for this contest and not something else. I also think business-wise this would sell really well as it’s simply a great blanket to live with! (something I’m considering, since sometimes a sweet design isn’t meant for all objects!) Also great to rep Cali ndns!
Kim Trujillo’s belts! They’re truly amazing and they last a very long time 🙏🏽🙌🏽❤️
Beautiful belts by Kim R. Trujillo. Each belt uniquely designed with mastery and skill.
Jessica Rosemary Harjo creation is beautiful and innovative!!!
I hope her design is chosen for a wool blanket. I would love to purchase one possible two for my daughters. The design and colors are gorgeous.
The color palettes and designs of Geo or Jessica would be unique additions to your existing range of blankets. Love bright color!
Love Geo Neptune’s basket and KIM R TRUJILLO ’s work too!
Wow it amazes me how one can design an art piece with her method.
To me that says pure conscious imprint of the beauty of our creator essence.
Her work is so detailed and precise. Truly a vibration that will be felt through any textile.
Pat’s imagery reflects love, beauty, honour…a blanket with her work would be amazing,
Geo Neptune all the way!!
I have one of Pat’s Birch Bark bitings. People comment on it’s uniqueness all the time. This is a beautiful and rare art form. It would be fantastic to see this piece chosen.
I vote for Geo Neptune!! 💜💙❤️
Jessica Rosemary Harjo’s design is exquisite. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
IKERSON HOPPER! The design is so intricate and it’s like no other blanket currently being sold on Eighth Generation. I love it!
Jessica powless ! Great work
I absolutely love Pat Bruderer’s exquisite birch bark biting. Her work is precise and from a traditional indigenous art form that is specific and rare in artists. Her submission is not only unique but one can see the connection to a lived experience of indigenous ways of knowing and her birch bark canvas Honord the land.
Jessica Rosemary Harjo!
I love the use of color in her design. The diamonds on the little birdies are my favorite!
Navarro uses color beautifully, & would likely do a beautifully colorful blanket as well. I also like Harjo’s colors and designs a lot. But I think I’d really love to see a blanket by Bruderer. While her submitted piece is small, there is just so much there! Dragonflys are important in my life too, showing up at times when I need guidance.
The two Jessicas get my vote, I would love to see the blankets they would create.
Geo Neptune has my vote!. He’s a fantastic artist and this is a breathtaking basket. I just love the colors, shape & design.
Wow Pat Brueders birch bark bitings would look amazing on a blanket love them
pat birch bark biting is beautiful..keeping the art alive and the story that goes with it is impressive.
Jessica Harjo’s design is the definition of keen!
Jessica Powless’s design is perfect for a blanket!
JESSICA ROSEMARY HARJO

Geo Neptune’s basket. The color and weave are stunning.
Jessica Powless her art is just amazing, always tells a story about culture and traditions…Absolutely beautiful !
Love all the work, but Geo Neptune’s work is so amazing 💙!!!
Jessica Powless’ art transcends any one Nation— I’d love to see any of her work featured on a blanket.
Jessica Powless 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I love Geo and Jessica’s works. All are stunning!
The colors and design of JESSICA ROSEMARY HARJO’s piece are so fresh
Jessica Rosemary Harjo is so gifted and I love her work!
First off, I love how Ikerson Hopper’s design was so breathtaking that the Studio Assistant was limited to saying that it was, “So dope”. And secondly, I love how powerful his designs are on the top and are followed by a subtle, yet still strong, design underneath. Definitely an eye catcher!
I’m really into Geo Neptune, David Naranjo, and Jessica Harjo.
These are so remarkably beautiful. Each has it’s own personality. Difficult to choose.
This one is tough…
WOW!! Tough decision………I choose Geo Neptune as it took my breath away with its colorful beauty.
David A. Naranjo—- love the division in the design…simple and complex at the same time. Colors are pure and calming.
David Naranjo – Santa Clara Pueblo
Kim R Trujillo – Taos Pueblo
Geo Neptune Awesome! They are all so very beautiful. What a beautiful collection of great artists.
Beautiful work by all of the artists! My vote is for Geo Neptune.

Jessica Powless..what beautiful detail and colors
Jessica Powless..why beautiful detail and colors
Geo Neptune ❤️
I love Pat Bruderer’s birch bark bitings.. What an incredible talent!
Pat Bruderer/half moon woman.
That design is beautiful. It would look amazing on a blanket, on T-shirts, in a mural, or as a stand alone piece.
Geo Neptune has my vote.
Ikerson Hopper – Onondaga Nation
Love the Black and Gold designs. Easily my favorite.
They’re all beautiful… but Geo’s design is breathtaking! Geo Neptune definitely gets my vote.
Between the 2 posts I would need 4 votes. Ha…
The samples provided for Darby Raymond-Overstreet, Geo Neptune, Pat Bruderer, and Ikerson Hopper all stood out for me.
But ultimately, if I really have to pick just one: Geo.
beautyful and radiante good vibes of your soul ! GO ! Jessica Arjo !
My auntie Pat has worked hard to preserve the ancient art of birch biting. Her work is always thoughtful, full of heart & history and displayed across the world. So very proud of her.
Geo Neptune! Not only is Geo’s work stunning, but their message is critically important for our youth.Since blankets are often given as honoring gifts, there needs to be a two-spirit Eighth Generation blanket, to send a message that it’s not just ok to be two-spirit, but it’s ok to celebrate and honor two-spirit family, friends and community members.
