After a difficult and careful review of over 200 submissions from artists across the U.S. and Canada, the Eighth Generation team has selected 13 semi-finalists. This blog announces the first 6, and the next blog post will announce the remaining 7. After a period of community feedback, we will decide on 4 finalists!
We encourage you to show love and support for this year's semi-finalists (and the previously highlighted Honorable Mentions)by leaving a comment about your favorites! Keep in mind that the art below are broader examples of their work - not necessarily wool blanket designs - so you'll have to use your imagination! We've added a link to the artists website or social media pages whenever possible.
Take a look at the beautiful artwork below, and please feel free to share with your networks! And be sure to keep an eye out for the next batch of Semi-Finalists.

Jeremy and Sydney … awesome!
Sydney Jacobs design is beautiful. The black and white is so timeless and the design is so delicate and mesmerizing. My absolute favorite among the collection.
Jeremy Fields And Sydney Jacobs are my two favourites! Carol Douglas And Jennifer Riley after that
I am a fan of Darby Raymond-Overstreet’s design and color.
1. Jeremy Fields
2. Sydney Jacobs
3. Jennifer Riley
What talented artists and submissions!! But I must say, Jennifer Riley’s design speaks to me as the intricate/bold design and vibrancy of the work captures the heart, soul, and beauty of the Southwest and her Native people. I am mesmerized by the piece and it’s active kaleidoscope like effect which is further highlighted by the colors chosen. This is definitely a piece I would like to own!!!

Jeremy Fields! Love his work and this piece is beautiful.
Darby Raymond-Overstreet. I love her colors and design. Absolutely beautiful!!
I love Jennifer Riley’s design! Her combination of traditional design and color scheme could appeal to many preferences. I see this blanket appealing to younger children, including my own daughter who likes color and vibrancy like children are, while still weaving in and wrapping them up both literally and symbolically in the blessings of Southwest pottery design. This design speaks across genders and cultures, and is inclusive to anyone wanting to make a statement! Good job to all the artists in the contest!
Fox Spears is my favorite… it speaks serenity and strength to me… the perfect fit for a beautiful blanket as you wrap yourself in it to rest, sleep and renew.
Amazing designs and artists! I’m really taken with Darby Raymond-Overstreet’s art and think it would make for an amazing blanket.
Carol Douglas and Jeremy Spears get my vote. This is hard to choose.
I would really like the Sydney Jacobs for my living room! They are all beautiful and very well done!
I love Carol Douglas’ design!! We need something that shows the power of women 🙌🏽
My favorite design for a blanket is Sydney Jacobs, made with beads and while the design looks complex, the 2 colors make it elegant,
All of the finalists did beautiful work, congratulations to everyone!
I cast my vote for DARBY RAYMOND-OVERSTREET – DINÉ/NAVAJO. Her design encapsulates an understated beauty with its simplicity.

I vote for Darby Raymond-Overstreet’s design as well as Jeremy Fields’. Both of these are such beautiful pieces!
Although all the work is beautiful, I favor two of them. As a working mother I absolutely love the Carol Douglas. It shows how us as woman and mothers have worked and supported our own all whilst caring for our children for generations. Fox Spears also speaks to me. It reflects how life can be light and calm at times yet dark and heavy at other times.
Carol Douglas’ my favorite
Carol Douglas by far…

Jacobs and Fields are my favorites but I’m a huge fan of black/white & patterns. They are all so beautiful and all the artists should be very proud of their amazing work.
Really hard to decide but Douglas is clearly awesome, with Riley a close second, and Darby third. Best of luck to all though.
I like the Mohawk and Arapaho entries best, though all are beautiful.
Fox Spears’ piece you show is sublime. Just love it.

Love them all. I think the geometric colorful Darby Raymond Overstreet is cool. But a more female blanket I like Carol Douglas’s effort. So excited to see the final pick.

I want to vote for Sydney Jacobs and carol Douglas. Nizhoni
Love Darby Raymond-Overstreet’s design. Would make a awesome design.
I thought the elegant frog design was the strongest. Disappointed in finals
Carole Douglas has my vote. Not only does she portray women, but each of them is carrying a basket or cradle board, which to me represents the many ways women support & nurture their families, communities, & beyond. That they are facing the center shows their connectedness to the Center of All.
Jennifer Riley, followed by Fox Spears and then Sydney Jacobs. 1, 2, 3. Great work!
I absolutely love Darby Raymond-Overstreet’s design. It’s so beautiful and elegant and would make a stunning, one of a kind blanket. She’s a wonderful artist and would be the perfect choice for your contest.
Although I’m not a fan of blue so much, as a Tolowa/Yurok basket weaver, I find Fox Spears design strong and it would read well on a large piece of cloth. I prefer black and greys or tan.
Wow! These are very talented artists! My favorite is Darby Raymond-Overstreet. The design and colors are beautiful!
Great designs! I really dig Darby Raymond-Overstreet’s colorful pattern!
I love the one by Darby Raymond-Overstreet it is so bright and would fit any room design.
I fell head over heels in love with the sacred beauty of Jennifer Riley’s woven basket I will call Earth Women ~ The Givers of Life!
Darby Raymond Overstreet. I love her style and design!
Love his choice of colors and how the emphasis the ribbon work design. A good representation of the southern cloth ribbon skirts of Oklahoma.
I love the appliqué design and colors that compliment eachother and the stars that are incorporated are a nice touch. I would love to see any design by Jeremy Fields on a wool blanket.
Love everyone of these artists… such beautiful work, especially Crystal Worl and Carol Douglas.
Everyone of these are beautiful! Especially love the contrast of colors and art by Jeremy Fields.. Wow!!
Jacobs and Fields are my favorites!
I love Jeremy Fields’ ribbonwork designs first. I’m part Otoe-Missouria and it brings back memories of my mother’s shawls. She had designs used by many generations of her family. I used several on some of my paintings. It should be used as a border design or horizontal or vertical designs broken into 3 pieces (top, middle, bottom) on blankets complementing the colored ribbonwork design.
I also love Jennifer Riley’s use of color in her geometric design. It could be used as a border or used as a horizontal or vertical design on any colored blanket used within her design. I would go with darker colors or primary colored blankets.
Wow! I don’t know how you could choose! … and the Acoma basket by Jennifer Riley is over the top beautiful. Thank you for sharing! :D
I love the story that Jeremy Fields is able to convey through his use of color and art.
Congratulations to these semifinalists!
My heart skipped a beat when I scrolled to Sydney Jacobs’ black and white piece. I would purchase this design or similar in a blanket if available. I love symmetry, woodland designs and beading. It is very easy to enter this design and feel the whole universe as if you’re looking into a clear night sky of stars. Thankyou for asking for feedback. Will be glad to see the next group! Respectfully, Sarah
Jennifer Riley- ACOMA, NAMBE AND LAGUNA has my vote a smidge over all the others, which are absolutely beautiful! Miigwech
The Fox Spears and Jennifer Riley designs are amazing.
Loved carol Douglas’s work for the theme. And Sydney JACOBS for the black and white and design.
I love the fox spears – its clean, complicated and simple all at once.
And I really love the Seminole-Arapaho basket for this time of reconnecting
with the feminine.
I love your emails. Each new group of amazing designs just brightens my day. I especially love the basket !
I like Fox Spears’ myself.
They are all beautiful! I’ve put off buying a blanket because it’s such an investment, but if you made a blanket inspired by Carol Douglas’ basket, I would find a way!
