In our Lightning And Thunder Pet Collection, Eighth Generation has partnered with Pueblo of Laguna artist Pat Pruitt and sustainability-minded manufactures to create four iconic pet products fit for Fido, stupendous for Sassy, and perfect for your pet.
Pat has adapted his iconic Lightning And Thunder design for our Lightning And Thunder Squeaky Toy. Blue and white zigzags slash across a dark blue field of cotton drill fabric. Pat's design symbolizes thunder, lightning, and life-giving rain. "In our culture, thunder and lightning symbolize the coming of Shiwana, the rain, and its importance to life here in the desert," shares Pat. "I hope this design brings the feeling of that calm before the storm that is filled with electricity and sound. The feeling becomes an engaging experience, especially when you know what is coming next . . . the rain."
Our Lightning And Thunder Squeaky Toys are sewn and assembled by the Seattle-based nonprofit Refugee Artisan Initiative (RAI). BIPOC-founded and women-run, RAI partners with refugee and immigrant women for an inclusive, prosperous transition to the United States job market through skill training and business development. The beds and toys they produced for this product line are filled with Eighth Generation’s textile scraps, keeping waste from landfills and giving these scraps a second life. That means each pet bed provides jobs and training, reduces waste, uplifts a Native artist, and supports our small, tribally-owned business. Now that’s something to set tails wagging!
