What word is so important that it's even spelled out right in alphabet? NO.

"In my personal journey as an artist and business owner, learning to say "No" was a key factor in my success," shares Eighth Generation's founder and creator of our NO Enamel Pin, Louie Gong (Nooksack). It may seem counterintuitive that saying no to something opens you up to opportunity, but look at it from this perspective: when you say "No," you're actually freeing yourself up to say "Yes" to the things that truly matter to you. "No" is the gift you give yourself. 

"I designed the NO Enamel Pin for all the people pleasers, the hustlers, and anybody who's been trained their whole lives to say yes, even when in their heart they really want to say no," says Louie. "This pin is a reminder that it's okay to guard your values, your personal time, and even your own safety." 

It can take practice to say no. Louie says, "I got better at saying no by placing little reminders around my office and house that it was not just okay to say no, but that saying no was a complete sentence." Wearing our NO Enamel Pin is a subtle way to remind yourself about this powerful little word, or keep one on your office corkboard or propped next to your kitchen sink for a bright little reminder.

Speaking of bright, the turquoise color is intentional! "I designed this pin with vibrant, fun colors because saying no does not have to be unpleasant," says Louie. "Let's take the sting out of saying no, and turn it into something positive."

about the artist

I'm Louie Gong (Nooksack) and I'm the founder of Eighth Generation. I'm a self-taught artist who was raised by my grandparents in the Nooksack tribal community in northwest Washington. I got my start by painting cultural art on shoes, but realized that creating one-of-a-kind pieces did not provide a sustainable pathway to success, so I began applying my artwork to accessibly-priced products. My unique style merges traditional Coast Salish art with influences from my mixed heritage and urban environment to create work that resonates widely across communities and cultures.
