Eighth Generation 2026 Inspired Natives Artist Award   Official Rules and Terms and Conditions 

  1. Sponsor  

The Eighth Generation 2026 Inspired Natives Artist Award is sponsored by Eighth Generation, with its principal business address at  6140 6th Avenue South, Seattle WA, 98108 (“Sponsor”).  

  1. Acceptance of Official Rules  

By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of Sponsor and the judging panel, which shall be final and binding in all respects.  

  1. Entry Period  

The Award entry period begins on August 17, 2026, at 12:01am PDT and ends on September 14, 2026, at 11:59pm PDT(“Entry Period”). Sponsor’s designated timekeeping system is the official clock for the Award. 

  1. Eligibility 

The Award is open only to individuals who, at the time of entry:  

  1. Are at least eighteen (18) years of age. 

  1. Are legal residents of the United States and are able to provide a valid IRS Form W-9.

  1. Are able to provide valid documentation of eligible Tribal affiliation, as determined by Sponsor in its reasonable discretion. 

  1. Submit an entry in accordance with these Official Rules. 

The following persons are not eligible to enter:  

  1. Employees, officers, directors, managers, and agents of Sponsor. 

  1. Members of the judging panel. 

  1. Any entity involved in the administration of the Award. 

  1. Immediate family members, defined as parents, stepparents, children, stepchildren, siblings, stepsiblings, spouse, and domestic partner, of any of the foregoing. 

  1. Persons living in the same household as any of the foregoing.  

Sponsor reserves the right to verify eligibility at any time and to require proof of age, residence, identity, and Tribal affiliation. Failure to provide requested documentation within the time specified by Sponsor may result in disqualification. 

  1. How to Enter  

During the Entry Period, eligible entrants must complete the official online entry form and submit all required materials through the submission platform designated by Sponsor.  
 
Required materials include: 

  • Documentation of eligible Tribal affiliation  

  • Portfolio materials requested by Sponsor 

  • One design submission meeting the technical and content requirements stated in these Official Rules or in the submission prompt 

  • Any additional information reasonably requested by Sponsor for evaluation or administration of the Award 
     
    Limit one (1) entry per person, unless Sponsor expressly states otherwise in writing. Multiple entries in excess of the permitted limit may be disqualified.  
     
    Entries must be received during the Entry Period. Entries that are incomplete, late, corrupted, altered, illegible, technically defective, or otherwise noncompliant may be disqualified in Sponsor’s sole discretion.

  1. Submission Requirements  
    Each submission must comply with the following requirements: 

  • The submission must be the entrant’s original work. 

  • The entrant must own or control all rights necessary to submit the work and to grant the rights described in these Official Rules. 

  • The submission must not infringe, misappropriate, or violate any copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy, publicity, moral, contractual, or other proprietary right of any third party. 

  • The submission must not include material that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, threatening, hateful, discriminatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate, as determined by Sponsor in its discretion. 

  • The submission must not contain viruses, malicious code, or other harmful components. 

  • The submission must comply with any formatting, size, file type, and technical requirements provided by Sponsor.  
     
    If the submission includes any third party material, the entrant must have all permissions, licenses, and consents necessary for its inclusion and for Sponsor’s permitted use under these Official Rules. 
     
    Sponsor may disqualify any submission that does not comply with these Official Rules or that, in Sponsor’s judgment, is inconsistent with the purpose, values, or spirit of the Award.

  1. Nature of the Award 

The Award is a skill-based contest. Chance plays no part in the selection of winners. 

  1. Judging Criteria and Winner Selection 

Eligible entries will be reviewed by Sponsor and or an advisory board or judging panel designated by Sponsor. 
 
Entries will be evaluated using criteria such as the following:   

  • Artistic merit and originality 

  • Responsiveness to the submission brief or design prompt  

  • Quality, creativity, and distinctiveness of the submitted work  

  • Strength of the entrant’s portfolio and overall artistic practice  

  • Alignment with the goals and values of the Award 

  • Community engagement, emerging artist impact, or related factors, if applicable  

Sponsor may assign relative weighting to these criteria in its discretion. Sponsor also reserves the right to refine the judging criteria before the close of the Entry Period, provided that any such changes are disclosed in a legally appropriate manner.  
 
Potential winners will be selected from among all eligible entries received during the Entry Period. Decisions of Sponsor and the judges are final and binding on all matters relating to the Award. 
 
Sponsor reserves the right not to select a winner in one or more prize categories if, in its judgment, insufficient eligible entries of adequate quality are received. 

  1. Prize Categories and Approximate Values  
    Subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules, Sponsor expects to award the following prizes:  

  1. Grand Prize  

One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive $15,000 USD and an opportunity to have the winning design featured on a wool blanket to be sold by Sponsor, subject to a separate written agreement with Sponsor.  

  1. Second Prize   

One (1) Second Prize winner will receive $10,000 USD and an opportunity to have the winning design featured on a to be determined textile product to be sold by Sponsor, subject to a separate written agreement with Sponsor. 

  1. Third Prize 

One (1) Third Prize winner will receive $5,000 USD and an opportunity to have the winning design featured on a to be determined textile product to be sold by Sponsor, subject to a separate written agreement with Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize or prize component of equal or greater value if any advertised prize becomes unavailable for any reason. Prizes are non-transferable and may not be assigned, substituted, or redeemed for cash except at Sponsor’s sole discretion.  
 
Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, local, and other taxes, if any, associated with acceptance or use of any prize. Sponsor may require a completed IRS Form W-9 or similar tax documentation before issuing prize payments.

Winners will be invited to a special celebration event to take place at a to be determined date in the fall of 2026 in Seattle, WA.

  1. Winner Notification and Requirements 

Potential winners will be notified using the contact information provided in their entries. 
 
As a condition of receiving a prize, each potential winner may be required to execute and return, within the time period specified by Sponsor: 

  • A declaration or affidavit of eligibility  

  • A liability release, to the extent permitted by law 

  • A publicity release, to the extent permitted by law 

  • Tax documentation  

  • A separate written agreement concerning the commercialization, licensing, assignment, development, manufacture, marketing, sale, and or other exploitation of the winning design 
     
    If a potential winner:  

  • Cannot be contacted;  

  • Does not respond within the required time; 

  • Fails to provide requested documentation; 

  • Is found to be ineligible; 

  • Declines the prize; or 

  • Refuses or fails to sign required documents,  

Sponsor may disqualify that entrant and select an alternate winner from the remaining eligible entries.

11. Intellectual Property 

  1. Ownership of Non-Winning Submissions 

 Except as expressly provided in these Official Rules, entrants retain ownership of their submissions.

  1. License for Award Administration  

 By entering, each entrant grants Sponsor and its designees a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty free license to receive, host, store, reproduce, review, copy, transmit internally, display internally, and otherwise use the submission and accompanying materials solely for purposes of:  

  • Administering the Award 

  • Reviewing and judging entries  

  • Verifying eligibility  

  • Documenting the Award process  

  • Publicizing the Award in a general, noncommercial manner, including identifying entrants and winners, if the entrant is selected as a winner or finalist and subject to applicable law   

  1. Commercialization of Winning Designs 

 If an entrant is selected for a prize that includes the opportunity to have a design featured on a Sponsor product, that entrant must enter into a separate written agreement with Sponsor governing the parties’ rights and obligations with respect to the applicable winning design.  
 
That separate agreement may include terms relating to: 

  • Assignment or exclusive license of rights in the winning design 

  • Scope of permitted use 

  • Modifications and adaptations 

  • Product development and manufacturing specifications 

  • Credit and attribution 

  • Compensation structure, if any, beyond the stated prize 

  • Moral rights waivers to the extent permitted by law 

  • Representations, warranties, and indemnities 

  • Further assurances and cooperation  

If Sponsor and a selected winner do not execute the required written agreement within the timeframe specified by Sponsor, Sponsor may disqualify that winner and select an alternate.

  1. No Obligation to Commercialize 

Selection as a winner does not guarantee that a winning design will ultimately be manufactured, marketed, or sold unless and until the parties execute a separate written agreement and all production and business requirements are satisfied. 

  1. Entrant Representations and Warranties 

 By submitting an entry, each entrant represents, warrants, and covenants that: 

  • The entrant has read and understands these Official Rules. 

  • The entrant meets all eligibility requirements. 

  • All information submitted is true, complete, and accurate. 

  • The submission is original to the entrant, except for any third party material that the entrant is legally permitted to use. 

  • The entrant owns or controls all rights necessary to submit the materials and grant the rights described in these Official Rules. 

  • The submission does not infringe, misappropriate, or violate the rights of any third party. 

  • The entrant will cooperate with Sponsor in connection with eligibility verification and Award administration.

  1. Publicity Release  
     
    Except where prohibited by law, entry into the Award and acceptance of a prize constitutes each winner’s consent for Sponsor and its designees to use the winner’s name, likeness, voice, image, biographical information, Tribal affiliation, city and state, statements, and details about the submission for editorial, promotional, advertising, publicity, and trade purposes in any media now known or later developed, worldwide, without further notice, approval, or compensation, except as otherwise provided in a separate written agreement. 

  1. Privacy and Submission Materials 

Information collected from entrants will be used by Sponsor and its service providers for purposes of administering the Award, verifying eligibility, evaluating submissions, contacting entrants, selecting winners, fulfilling prizes, complying with legal obligations, and otherwise as described in Sponsor’s applicable privacy policy.  
 
By entering, each entrant acknowledges that Sponsor may collect and review uploaded Tribal affiliation documentation and portfolio materials for eligibility verification and judging purposes. The current submission process contemplates collection of Tribal affiliation documentation and portfolio materials through the entry form.  
 
Entrants should not submit confidential information or sensitive personal information beyond what is specifically requested by Sponsor.  
 
Sponsor may retain submissions and entry materials for a commercially reasonable period for legal, administrative, archival, and business purposes, subject to applicable law and Sponsor’s record retention practices. 

  1. Technical Issues and Platform Disclaimer 

Sponsor is not responsible for:  

  • Lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, corrupted, or garbled entries  

  • System errors, server outages, network failures, or transmission problems 

  • Technical malfunctions of any kind, including failures of the online entry platform 

  • Unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process 

  • Errors in the administration of the Award 

  •  Any injury or damage to an entrant’s or other person’s computer or device arising from participation in the Award or from downloading or uploading materials  

If the integrity or proper operation of the Award is impaired for any reason, including by fraud, technical failures, or other causes beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control, Sponsor may cancel, suspend, modify, or terminate the Award and select winners from among eligible, non-suspect entries received before the disruption, as Sponsor determines in its discretion. 

  1. Disqualification 

 Sponsor may disqualify any entrant who, in Sponsor’s discretion: 

  • Violates these Official Rules  

  • Submits false, misleading, or incomplete information  

  • Tampers with the entry or judging process  

  • Attempts to undermine the legitimate operation of the Award  

  • Acts in an unsportsmanlike, disruptive, abusive, or inappropriate manner  

  • Fails to provide requested verification materials 

  1. Release and Limitation of Liability 

 By entering, each entrant releases and holds harmless Sponsor, its parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies, judges, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, successors, and assigns from and against any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising out of or relating to:   

  • Participation in the Award  

  • Submission of any entry 

  • Acceptance, receipt, use, misuse, or possession of any prize 

  • Any use of the entrant’s name, likeness, statements, or submission materials as permitted under these Official Rules 

  • Nothing in these Official Rules shall exclude or limit any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. 

  1. Governing Law and Venue  

The Award and these Official Rules shall be governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.  
 
Any dispute arising out of or relating to the Award or these Official Rules shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, except where prohibited by applicable law. Each entrant consents to the jurisdiction and venue of such courts. 

  1. Severability  

If any provision of these Official Rules is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect to the maximum extent permitted by law. 

  1. Sponsor’s Right to Modify  

Sponsor reserves the right to amend these Official Rules, extend or shorten the Entry Period, or modify, suspend, or terminate the Award if necessary for legal, operational, or business reasons, subject to applicable law.

  1. Void Where Prohibited  

 The Award is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
