For the Snoqualmie people, Moon the Transformer controls the water and tides of the Earth, while Cedar trees provide the basis for everything, including the storyboards that are carved to tell spiritual stories. Inspired Natives® artist, Bethany Fackrell (Snoqualmie) pays homage to Moon the Transformer, cedar trees, and storyboard carvings in her Moon Carver Wool Blanket. At the heart of her design, five moons orbit the center of her blanket, representing the five clans of Snoqualmie. She lines the sides with a pattern to represent the nicks of wood found on traditional moon carvings, and the ripples in the water created by cedar canoes and paddles.
In deep brown, tan, and dark blue, Bethany adds even more significance to her design by using the natural colors found on the woods of cedar trees and the dirt it grows from.
