Eighth Generation founder Louie Gong had to work hard for his first blanket.  Although he had been  serving community through both his professional role as an educator and extensive volunteerism for nearly 20 years, it wasn't until 2010 - when he gave a keynote presentation at the National Indian Education Association's Annual Convention - that he finally earned the honor of being wrapped in a blanket.

The blanket plays an important role in tribal communities across the United States and Canada, but there have been very few options for companies, organizations and tribes interested in purchasing honor blankets.  And if you had a smaller budget or a commitment to supporting Native owned small-businesses, there were almost no options.  In fact, you probably got stuck either purchasing novelty blankets with generic art stamped on them or spending hundreds of dollars on each blanket.
