Join us in congratulating Serene Lawrence (Anishinaabe, Hopi) for her promotion as Eighth Generation’s first Chief Operating Officer! In keeping with our values, we looked internally for the perfect candidate.
Serene is Loon Clan and an enrolled member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, a Tribe located on the shores of Lake Superior near Minnesota where she was raised.
A traditional Jingle dress dancer and beadwork artist involved with the Twin Cities Urban Native community her entire life, Serene brings a wealth of experience and knowledge working at the complicated intersections of culture, art and education.
Over the last four years, Serene has risen through company ranks. In her most recent role as Senior Project Manager, she was responsible for overseeing product development from artist engagement to manufacturing and marketing. She also coordinated Eighth Generation's timely donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to struggling health clinics in the early days of the pandemic.
“Through my work here, I’ve gained skills that Native people hardly ever get a chance to develop due to historical dominance of the market for cultural art by corporations,” Serene says. “Coming from a family of Native artists, the mission of Eighth Generation is true to my values."
Believing in Native excellence, Bob de los Angeles, Chairman of the Snoqualmie Tribe says, “Investing in people like Serene will secure the long-term, positive change that both Eighth Generation and the Tribe are pursuing.”
Thank you, Serene! We're ready for you to take on your new role.

I bought a cotton blanket for my wife as other fabrics itch her. She loves it. Great product.
I won’t live long enough to become knowledgeable about native cultures, but I have went to exhibits in Toronto, Minneapolis, Santa Fe and Plymouth Plantation. I try to understand culture and it’s artifacts as insights to a culture’s perspective. I find myself drawn to sense of connection that native culture points to. Thanks for great product and an inspiring story. Best wishes.

I recently discovered your company and made my first order. I was very pleased with my selections.
Congratulations on your selection of your first COO. Very appropriate that she is a well qualified woman.
I too believe in Native Excellence. I served Sitka Tribe as Education Director for 15 years and saw it in my College bound as well as my Vocational Education Students.
