Beachy-Keen...in November?

It's gray and rainy here in Seattle, and across the US folks are flocking from the beaches to cozy cabins for vacations. So why is Eighth Generation launching three new Beach Towel designs just in time for winter weather?

Local Business, Global Suppliers

Eighth Generation is proud to be a small, local business in Seattle owned by the Snoqualmie Tribe. We're also proud of our status as a player in the global economy: our products are produced by suppliers from all across the globe, and purchased by happy customers and loyal supporters from around the world. But that also means we are subject to the same issues as big businesses working with international shippers. Getting our products to our warehouse in Seattle, Washington, means we have to contend with:

  • Increased global maritime piracy affecting shipping times from our suppliers
  • International supplier holiday periods resulting in manufacturing delays
  • Domestic port strikes impacting delivery dates of shipments, as well as increased shipping overall causing more port traffic, which increases delivery time
  • ...and many other domestic and international impacts!

While our Beach Towels were ordered from our supplier with plenty of time for them to arrive just in time for sunny skies, they were delayed in reaching our warehouse for almost five months! The result? Launching three new Beach Towel designs in November, while restocking our best-selling Beach Towel designs.

Why Not Wait?

Why not hang on to our new designs and launch them when the weather is warm and the pool is packed? The answer is: every product we sell directly supports the Native artist who designed it. We want to make sure that our artists have every opportunity to make as many sales as possible, putting dollars in the hands of Native artists and increasing the prosperity of Indian Country. Which means we want to sell Beach Towels even when the skies are gray! Our colorful, plush Beach Towels make great gifts this holiday season, plus many of our customers have said the love the large size and extra absorbency so much they use them as their everyday bath towels.

New Designs and Old Favorites

Our three new Beach Towels join six other best-selling designs, plus our two fun Hooded Towels for kids. Our new designs include:

  • Noon Day Sun Beach Towel by Bryan Waytula (Cherokee), which features a summer sky palette and traditional Cherokee pattern
  • Timeless Journey Beach Towel by Bethany Fackrell (Snoqualmie), which shares red mountains rising above a river of fish, all swiftly swimming as they travel home
  • New Day Beach Towel by Sarah Agaton Howes (Anishinaabe-Ojibwe), with a palette of crystal-clear blues and sandy tans and a traditional loomwork design

Despite the delays, we are thrilled to launch these three new Beach Towel designs by our creative Native artists. Their artistry shines bright even during these gray days, and we appreciate each of our supporters for joining us in celebrating these bright new designs—no matter the weather!
