Continue ShoppingMy name is Sx̱aałg̱én—Stephanie Masterman in English—and I am from the Tlingit tribe of Southeast Alaska. I am from the Wooshkeetaan (Eagle/Shark) clan from the village of Hoonah, a child of German, English, Irish, and Navajo ancestors, and a grandchild of the T’akdeintaan (Raven/black-legged Kittywake) clan also from Xunaa Káawu (Hoonah). I was born and raised in Washington State and am a 2022 graduate of American Indian Studies and Arctic Studies from the University of Washington. I have served in the Emerging Leader and Youth Ambassador leadership roles for my tribe, and continue to be actively involved in advocacy for MMIW and environmental justice for my community. I have been a member of the Eighth Generation team for six years and my latest role is as the Retail and Special Projects Manager.
I'm Louie Gong (Nooksack) and I'm the founder of Eighth Generation. I'm a self-taught artist who was raised by my grandparents in the Nooksack tribal community in northwest Washington. I got my start by painting cultural art on shoes, but realized that creating one-of-a-kind pieces did not provide a sustainable pathway to success, so I began applying my artwork to accessibly-priced products. My unique style merges traditional Coast Salish art with influences from my mixed heritage and urban environment to create work that resonates widely across communities and cultures.
