Good News - Mixed Media Earring

Whether it be an unexpected surprise or a message from a loved one who has passed on, Hummingbirds are a symbol of good news. Wear these exquisitely detailed, mixed-media earrings and see what the day brings.

This "Good News" design by Louie Gong (Nooksack) features a Coast Salish Hummingbird that was originally painted on a hand drum for a friend in 2010. Since then, the design's undeniable energy and movement have made it one of Louie's favorite works.

The "Good News" two-sided earring design was also created in a way that reflects Louie's usual tributes to both new and old. The hand-painted wood compliments northwest Native art traditions, while ensuring that every single earring has a unique wood grain and paint job that can never be duplicated. This compliments the bold contemporary finish of the backdrop, which is made of acrylic. The metal jump ring and hook have a gun metal finish.

This product is hand-painted, machine cut, and assembled in Louie's studio in Seattle, Washington.

Louie Gong (Nooksack), founder of Eighth Generation, is a self-taught artist who was raised by his grandparents in the Nooksack tribal community in northwest Washington. He got his start by painting cultural art on shoes, but realized that creating one-of-a-kind pieces did not provide a sustainable pathway to success, and began applying his artwork to accessibly-priced products. Louie’s unique style merges traditional Coast Salish art with influences from his mixed heritage and urban environment to create work that resonates widely across communities and cultures.
