“Native men are so in love with their babies,” shares Colleen Echohawk (Pawnee, Athabascan), Eighth Generation’s CEO. “Native dads in particular are known for being very involved, loving, and committed parents. It’s really exciting to honor Native dads in our newest limited edition print, but this print is really for any dad who loves his babies, shows up with strength for his kids, and sets a good example for the next generation.”
A Father’s Love Fine Art Print is a testament to the power of fatherhood. Based on an original oil painting by Osage artist, veteran, and father Dante Biss-Grayson, this limited-edition fine art print makes a loving, thoughtful gift for the man who helped raise you.
“It is important to celebrate fathers because they play a vital role in the lives of their children and families,” shares Dante. “Fathers provide emotional support, guidance, and stability, and their presence positively impacts the overall well-being of their children. Celebrating fathers acknowledges their efforts, sacrifices, and contributions, and it helps foster a culture of appreciation and gratitude. It also reinforces the importance of strong and involved father figures in society.”
While Dante has been an artist from a young age, he says it’s daughter, Ella Sky-Eagle, who inspired the MMIW advocacy work he does. He and his wife, Yanti, named their fashion house, Sky Eagle Collective, after their daughter.
“I included certain symbols in this painting that reinforce the spiritual and sacred aspects of Native American fatherhood,” says Dante.
“The stars on the father’s blanket symbolize hope and guidance. In Native American culture, stars are often associated with spiritual guidance and a connection to the spirit and creator. They represent a source of light and inspiration, much like the morning star heralding the dawn and the coming of light to the earth. The stars on the blanket can signify the importance of guidance and hope in the context of Native American fatherhood.
The "+" symbols, specifically the cross within a circle, hold significant meaning in Native American symbolism. This symbol is known as the Medicine Wheel, and it has deep spiritual significance. The cross represents the four directions, the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water), and the four stages of life (birth, youth, adulthood, and elderhood). The circle represents unity, wholeness, and the interconnectedness of all things. Together, the cross in a circle symbolizes the Sun, Moon, and fire, embodying the sacred forces of nature and the universe. Including this symbol in my painting reinforces the spiritual and sacred aspects of Native American fatherhood.”
A meaningful gift for the father or father-figure in your life, our A Father’s Love Fine Art Print is a powerful present this Father’s Day.
Known as giclée prints (pronounced "zhe-clay"), our fine art prints are distinguished from mass-produced prints due to their quality, longevity, and value. We print using a state-of-the-art, large-format fine art printer in our Seattle-based art studio. Because they're printed on acid-free paper, our prints won't degrade over time, and when displayed out of direct sunlight will maintain their color saturation and fine detail for decades.
