This beautiful design by Eighth Generation in collaboration with the Snoqualmie Tribe speaks to the Snoqualmie peoples’ past, present and future.
The Tribe’s story celebrates what is uniquely Snoqualmie. Once the largest Tribe in this region, Snoqualmie controlled vast trade routes. If you were traveling north, south, east, or west, you were moving through Snoqualmie lands. Tribal leaders describe the central stronghold of their people and how their trade and influence extended from the mountains, through freshwater, to saltwater. The carving shape and step elements – from baskets and blanket weavings – represent mountains and water.
The design also honors the Tribe’s use of native plants and ecology, which has been passed down from their ancestors. When placed side by side, the meeting of the design speaks to the intergenerational connection through time.
