Anishinaabe artist Sarah Agaton Howes' latest earring concept stems from the idea of being together even when we are apart. Sarah Howes says, "During the pandemic, I spend a lot of time in the woods with my kids. One day we watched a porcupine move with their steady, slow, measured intention." Porcupines, although cute and gentle, are built for self-protection; constantly standing guard even when they are asleep. "I resonated with this as a mother during this isolating and scary time. Remain steady, ready, and focused; the lessons of the porcupine and the Protector earrings, a tale for 2020." She can relate to porcupines as she does her best to protect herself and her children while at home during these difficult times.

These wood earrings are made with love by the Eighth Generation staff in our Seattle studio. They are cut from real cherry wood and high resolution printed with multiple layers of protective coating.
